The change is noticeable even with OpenAI, the company that created ChatGPT and directed by Sam Altman. It started as a free service open to the public, as part of the training of the AI ​​model, then it started to have a paid and Premium version.

The paid versions are ChatGPT Plus and ChatGPT Pro. In the latter, according to a Xataka report, for $200 per month it offers unlimited access to its most advanced models and unlimited advanced voice interaction.

That price, for people who use AI very occasionally, is quite high per month, adding other types of accounts or services payable. In addition, there are already more tools such as Gemini, Claude, Bard AI, Meta AI, Perplexity, among others.

Will this situation mean that we will have one AI for the poor and another for the rich? They indicate in the report that Alberto Romero, author of the newsletter ‘The Algorithmic Bridge’, has indicated that there is a potential gap that could appear.

“OpenAI will operate in the market with the only rule that matters: that of supply and demand,” explains Romero. This is a situation in which those with more money will be able to use AI and the rest of us will “play with scraps at best, and at worst, we will compete with them for our employers’ budgets.”

The problem arises because, despite all its questions, AI offers a productive advantage.

A middle ground would come with advertising. The possibility of “free” access to these models, even if in a somewhat more limited way, would be like what happens with streaming platforms that insert constant advertising. The author points out that everything indicates that we will also have a “ChatGPT with ads.”
