Meta will pay a fine in Israel for discriminatory advertising

Meta will pay a million-dollar fine and make changes to its advertising platform in Israel as part of a compromise reached in an Israeli labor court.

The plaintiffs were able to disclose that the social network Facebook allowed employers publishing advertisements looking for workers to determine the gender, age and location of the audience that would see their advertisements.

Mostly people over 40-45 years old suffered from this option. Moreover, advertising that excludes this age category of applicants was published by leading Israeli companies.

At one point, the state’s Office of Equal Opportunity in the Workplace joined the lawsuit.

As part of the out-of-court settlement, Meta will pay $1 million to a representative claims fund, change its advertising policies, and create a separate advertising category for recruiting advertisements.
