It is an honor and a pleasure to be in this place after four and a half years, I know best how big a deal it is, I am proud and I thank the people in Dynamo that they chose me as a coach again. I thank the president A rabbitsports director Mariću and to all those who participated in bringing me to life. I mean, I know what Dinamo is, I know what the pressure is like and how it should be done. I believe that I will continue where I left off in April 2020, was the first thing Nenad Bjelica said when he returned to the position of Dinamo’s coach in September of this year.
After three months, Bjelica is ex, and Dinamo management found his replacement – a famous one Fabio Cannavaro who will try to shake up the Blues and change the course of the second half of the season with his name and influence, as well as his coaching skills.
– This is the 11th time I have come to a club since the second time in Dinamo, and I have come nine times as a fireman, that is, in situations where I did not put together my team. But I’m used to that situation, I’m convinced that together with all the players and the people who lead the club, we’ll get our team out of this situation – he announced drastic changes in the ‘blue’ locker room and drew a parallel with that team with which he was champion, but also achieved some historic successes in Champions League.
– Regarding the specific comparison with the first term, I am not at all interested in what happened six or five years ago, nor what happened in the last four games, nor what happened two months ago. No one lives from the past, we all face daily proof. The focus is on today and the new match. I don’t want to live on the old glory for a single second. I know what responsibility is on me and I am ready to take it.
‘It will be difficult for Dinamo to score a goal’
A lot of things didn’t go according to plan. Upon his return, Bjelica also announced what kind of system, what kind of squad could be expected. It’s hard to say that any of that worked.
– Dinamo’s game system has been different recently, in some situations 3-5-2, in others 4-3-3, 4-2-3-1. In the attacking phase, it used to be 4-3-3, they defended in 4-4-2… These are all the systems that Dinamo can play. I am a supporter of the game with four in defense, we will mostly go in that direction. As for the defensive game, I don’t think goalkeeper Ivan Nevisti is a problem at the moment either. not even the defensive four, but the whole squad. Because the whole team both defends and attacks. When we achieve that our attackč at the same time the first defensive game, then Dinamo will be organized and disciplined again and it will be difficult for anyone to score a goal. As a coach, I will give you everything, but I also expect everything from you on the field. And he knows it very well. He will certainly be that old Petkovi, I’m sure of that. I’m glad to be able to train him again. And I’m glad to be able to train the other boys who are here, and those who were there in my last mandate and those whom I inherited from my predecessor Sergej Jakirovi. I have a fair attitude towards everyone – Bjelica said then.
Offensive ideas did not survive
Jakirov’s Dinamo lacked strength, the impression that this is a team that will dominate the championship and achieve a good result in the Champions League. Bjelica had promised that his Dinamo would play much faster.
– Football in which there are not 50 passes in order to get a competitive goal, because that kind of football puts me to sleep. I’m not saying that Dinamo played like that. If you ask me about the attacking part, I give exact instructions to the players, what I want from them at all times, what offensive moves, what offensive decisions and solutions they should have. Whoever executes it will play more.
Three months later, Bjelica was fired and unofficially received a severance package of 1.2 million euros gross. Part of his ideas and ideas will try to be implemented by Fabio Cannavaro, with whom Dinamo is starting a new era.
