Danilo’s departure from Juventus sparks controversy in Europe

The departure of the experienced defender Danilo of Juventus has been controversial in the European press.

The player, captain of Dorival Júnior’s Brazilian team, is not part of the coach’s plans Thiago Motta and didn’t even travel with the squad competing in the Italian Super Cup, in Saudi Arabia.

Developed by América-MG and with a spell at Santos, Danilo played for Porto, Real Madrid and Manchester City before arriving at Velha Senhora, in the 2019/2020 season. Now, six seasons later, the 33-year-old player is looking for a new destiny.

Juventus’ decision to no longer count on Danilo, who still has six months left on his contract with the Italian club, sparked controversy on the Old Continent.

“It could just be the beginning of a tug of war between Juventus and their captain, who is about to become an ex,” highlights the Italian newspaper, Gazzetta dello Sport.

According to the important publication, Danilo was communicated in a “cold and direct” manner by the Juve board. On the other hand, the national team athlete would already be in contact with Napoli, negotiating a transfer.

The scenario of Danilo’s departure comes amid a crisis in Juventus’ defensive sector, following injuries to Bemer and Cabal. Not even the shortcomings in the position changed the Brazilian’s destiny.

“It’s been a few weeks since Danilo was placed on the sidelines of the project”, details Gazzetta. The Italian club, in turn, will still try to receive something for the player’s departure six months before the end of his contract.

“He is no longer part of this project, we were very clear. It is a decision taken for the good of everyone”, highlighted coach Thiago Motta.

The situation faced by the Brazilian veteran also had repercussions in Spain, where Danilo played for Real Madrid for two seasons.

O Sports World It should be noted that the player had “fantastic performance” in Italy, but because of his high salary and Juve’s desire to sign a new defender in the transfer window, he had “the doors suddenly closed”.

“The situation is ugly and even incomprehensible”, continues the Spanish newspaper.

Danilo himself, in turn, even discussed his possible departure at a press conference in December last year. “Have you ever seen a captain who leaves halfway through the season?” he asked.

“I have a contract until 2025 and I intend to stay until the end”, he guaranteed. But the situation has changed drastically. And Danilo’s future is now far from Turin.
