Greece plans to deploy Israeli-made artillery near Turkey’s borders

The Greek Ministry of Defense is negotiating the purchase from Israel of 40 PULS artillery systems produced by the Elbit Maarahot concern for deployment on the border with Turkey and on the islands.

Greek media report that in February, Defense Minister Nikos Dendias will present in parliament a defense procurement plan for the next decade, in which significant attention will be paid to strengthening the ground forces, and primarily artillery.

The transaction value is estimated at 500-700 million euros. The parties are negotiating the participation of Greek industry in the production process.

Greece’s military modernization plan includes the acquisition of up to 40 fifth-generation F-35 fighter jets from the United States and four frigates from France.

On December 13, Greece approved the purchase of American Switchblade drones manufactured by AeroVironment.

Negotiations are also underway with Israel on the purchase of Barak MX missile defense systems produced by the Israeli Aviation Industry to protect mainland Greece, and Spyder systems produced by the Raphael concern to protect the islands.
