Hamas Health Ministry: About 45,700 people have died in Gaza since the start of the war

The Gaza Ministry of Health (a Hamas structure) announced on January 4, 2025 that since the start of hostilities (October 7, 2023), 45,717 people have been killed in the Gaza Strip and 108,856 have been injured of varying degrees of severity.

According to the Hamas Ministry of Health, over the past 24 hours, the bodies of 59 people killed were delivered to hospitals during the fighting in Gaza.

Information from the Gaza Ministry of Health cannot be verified. The Hamas Ministry of Health does not specify how many of the killed and wounded were militants from terrorist groups.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has repeatedly emphasized that it cannot confirm or deny the accuracy of the data on killed and wounded provided by the Gaza Ministry of Health. At the same time, in January 2024, the Lancet published the results of an analysis, which may indirectly indicate that the data from the Gaza Ministry of Health are close to real ones.

Judging by IDF reports, dozens of militants from terrorist groups are being eliminated every day in Gaza. According to the IDF, about 17,000 militants and their commanders have been killed in Gaza since the beginning of the war. Hamas has previously acknowledged the deaths of approximately 6,000 of its fighters.

In the reports of the Ministry of Health of Gaza, they do not distinguish between the dead and wounded civilians and militants, and also claim that all casualties are a consequence of the actions of the IDF, although it is obvious that many die as a result of the actions of militants of terrorist organizations or for other reasons not directly related to the operation that carried out by the Israeli army in Gaza.

According to the Ministry of Health of the Palestinian Authority, more than 39% of those killed in Gaza were men of military age, 19% were women, 32% were minors, and more than 8% were elderly people.
