In the morning, the national hero, Lieutenant General Tiran Khachatryan was confirmed to “Azat” by Varazdat Harutyunyan, the lawyer of the former high-ranking soldier.
The spokesperson of the Investigative Committee, Kima Avdalyan, told “Azat” that administrative and judicial actions are being carried out, the criminal proceedings are confidential.
The Investigative Committee did not reveal the identity of the detainee, saying that providing personal information at this stage would violate the individual’s right to privacy and could hinder the normal course of criminal proceedings.
Khachatryan’s defense group wrote on Facebook. – “Lieutenant-General Tiran Khachatryan was arrested this morning in order to charge and present him to the court for detention.
The charge against Tiran Khachatryan (military official negligence during martial law), which he does not accept, is related to some circumstances of the 44-day war. At this stage, we cannot provide more details, but we repeat the charge against Tiran Khachatryan. does not accept and has repeatedly given exhaustive and thorough pre-investigation statements regarding the same circumstances and has not hindered the preliminary investigation in any way.”
A little later, the lawyers announced that the session of the court of first instance of general jurisdiction of Yerevan will take place today at 18:00.
Tiran Khachatryan was awarded the title of national hero of Armenia during the 44-day war. In February 2021, he was dismissed from the position of the first deputy chief of the Armed Forces on the recommendation of the prime minister and by the decree of the president.
At the beginning of last year, Tiran Khachatryan was arrested on the charge of committing hooliganism with his weapon, then less than two months later, he was released on bail of 5 million drams and an absence ban.
