Guangzhou-based autonomous driving company Pony.ai Inc is looking to launch its robotaxi services in Hong Kong, joining Baidu in the race to provide services in the city as it looks to expand its business globally. .
Pony.ai plans to provide robotaxi transportation services for airport staff within Hong Kong International Airport before expanding to other urban areas in the city, the company announced. So far, no time frame has been given for the launch of the service.
Chinese artificial intelligence giant Baidu is also considering launching its driverless taxi service in the city after the Hong Kong government approved its application to conduct trials in northern Lantau in November.
Pony.ai, which has obtained licenses for its robotaxi service in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Shenzhen, said it is also exploring the implementation of its autonomous driving business in South Korea, Luxembourg, the Middle East, and in other countries.
