Angry sharks await the polar bears

On Sunday the Cologne Sharks were fooled, certainly not on purpose. But it was bitter that the Haien’s goal to make it 2-2 against Augsburg was not recognized in the final minutes. A referee blew the whistle too early, Cologne ultimately lost 2:3 and should be motivated going into the game on Tuesday (7.30 p.m., live on Magentasport), because then the polar bears will stop by.

The Haie finished the game against Augsburg with a goal shooting ratio of 38:14 – and still lost. Two Cologne goals were disallowed. Cologne attacker Justin Schütz said about his supposed goal to make it 2-2 according to the “Kölner Stadtanzeiger”: “I was sure that he would give the goal. The window was exposed the whole time and I pushed it in. The referee told me it was his mistake. And then that’s how it is. People make mistakes. Sure, it hurts us.”

For two months, Cologne has been playing very compactly, strong in the transition game and with a very good defensive structure.

However, the Berliners do not come to the Cologne Arena, by far Europe’s most visited arena when it comes to ice hockey, as pastors for the Sharks, but rather with the momentum of five league victories in a row. 18,500 people were there again on Sunday.

However, the Eisbären, victorious in Nuremberg on Sunday, have respect for their opponents. Their coach Serge Aubin says: “For two months Cologne has been playing very compactly, strong in the transition game and with a very good defensive structure.”

The Berliners particularly enjoy playing in the Cologne Arena, and on September 20th they won the first away game of the season in the German Ice Hockey League 6-2 against the Haien. But that was on September 20, 2024, at a time when the Sharks were playing more Halligalli than controlled ice hockey. By the way, the Eisbären lost 2:3 after extra time in Berlin on December 6th, so they are warned for the game on Tuesday.
