Trudeau resigned, Trump could not remain silent

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced that he is leaving his post as head of government and chairman of the Liberal Party. The politician said he would do this as soon as the party elects a successor. Trudeau, 53, has headed the Canadian government for nine years.

“I care about our country and will always act in the best interests of Canadians. Despite our best efforts, Parliament has been paralyzed for months and we are operating as a minority government,” he said.

The government’s popularity has hit a record low as inflation rises, gross domestic product declines and the housing crisis hits. Polls predict a crushing defeat for the Liberals in the October 20 elections.

Trudeau’s political opponents are calling for it to be held earlier than this date, and even the prime minister’s party comrades say that the resignation is overdue – especially given the victory of Donald Trump in the US presidential election.

Trump himself could not refrain from commenting. He renewed his call for Canada to join the United States as the 51st state. “Many Canadians would be happy. No tariffs, lower taxes and complete protection from Russian and Chinese threats,” he wrote on the social network Truth.

The most likely successors to Trudeau are Minister of Finance Dominic Leblanc, Minister of Foreign Affairs Mélanie Joly and former head of the Central Bank Mark Carney. However, no one doubts that after the elections, the Canadian government will be headed by the leader of the Conservative Party, Pierre Poilievre, a consistent supporter of Israel.
