Nguyen Ninh green rice cake facility, No. 11 Hang Than, was fined 40 million VND for four food safety violations.
The decision was announced by the People’s Committee of Ba Dinh district on January 6. Violations include: food production processes that do not follow the one-way principle from input materials to final products; Production areas, food storage and food contact equipment are invaded by insects and harmful animals; The storage area does not ensure shelves, nameplates, rules, and cleaning procedures; People directly in contact with food are not fully equipped with labor protection.
Officials requested the facility to immediately take corrective measures to ensure food safety. According to the leader of the People’s Committee of Ba Dinh district, the shop owner has paid the fine and provided production and business records according to regulations. At the same time, this facility voluntarily demolished the current production area to renovate and rebuild to meet safety standards.
Previously, on the afternoon of January 2, Hanoi’s interdisciplinary inspection team No. 1 discovered that Nguyen Ninh’s green rice cake shop had violated food safety standards, requiring it to temporarily suspend operations to fix it. The inspection is part of the city’s 2025 Tet food safety inspection plan, focusing on establishments that produce and sell food and items consumed a lot during the Tet holiday.
On the product advertising website, Nguyen Ninh green rice cake establishment introduced that they have a history of more than 150 years, and are bought by many customers as gifts at home and abroad. Green rice cake is a specialty associated with the symbol of Hanoi’s autumn, sweet and fragrant with young green rice, combined with green bean filling and fresh grated coconut. The profession of making green rice cakes has also existed for hundreds of years in the capital.
