Last year, Croats bought as many as 63,800 new cars, and in December, even a ‘Chinese’ entered the top five

Last year, 63,806 new passenger vehicles were sold in Croatia, which is 7,109 or 12.5 percent more than in 2023, while last December alone, 3,642 new vehicles were sold, which is 227 or 6.6 percent more compared to December. 2023, data are Promotions plus. The best-selling car brand last year was Škoda, of which a total of 8,412 or 13.1 percent of total sales were sold last year. Second is Volkswagen with sales of 7,417 units and a share in sales of 11.6 percent, while third is Renault with total sales of 4,593 new vehicles and a share of 7.2 percent.

Fourth place is held by Toyota with 4,217 new vehicles sold (6.6 percent share), and fifth place by Suzuki with 4,074 or 6.3 percent share in total sales.

Of the premium brands, Audi sold 2,523 new cars in 2024, BMW 1,983, and Mercedes 1,237. Furthermore, 601 Teslas and 425 Porsches were sold last year. Of the relatively new players on the domestic market, 1,434 MGs, 593 Geelys and 206 Forthings found their way to customers.

The Suzuki Vitara was the best-selling model in December 2024, as 150 customers chose the Vitara that month. The Chinese MG ZS holds the second place among the best-selling models with the sale of 147 new units, while the third is the Octavia, with 141 vehicles sold. VW T-Cross is in fourth place among the best-selling models, since 140 were sold in December, while Citroen C3 is in fifth place with sales of 137 units.

Gas stations accounted for almost half of last year’s sales. During 2024, 30,535 gasoline-powered vehicles were sold, which is 47.9 percent of total sales. 19,263 customers or 30.2 percent chose the hybrid, and 10,685, or 16.7 percent, chose the diesel. 1,915 electric cars were sold, or three percent of the total sales, and 1,408 gas vehicles, or 2.2 percent.
