OpenAI’s Sam Altman denies sexual assault accusations against his sister

Sam Altmanexecutive director of OpenAIthe Californian company that launched ChatGPT, denied the accusations that his sister Annie Altman presented in a complaint against him for alleged sexual assault during their childhood.

“Annie has made completely false and hurtful statements about our family, and especially about Sam,” he published in a letter signed by the executive and also by his mother and two brothers, posted on the social network X.

“Our family loves Annie and is very concerned for her well-being. Caring for a family member facing mental health issues is incredibly difficult,” they explain.

Sam Altman, 39 years old and a Silicon Valley star for years, has been globally recognized since 2023 for the global success of ChatGPT, which launched the technological revolution of generative artificial intelligence (AI).

The Altman family says they have tried to help Annie by covering several of her expenses and guaranteeing her “monthly financial assistance, probably for the rest of her life.”

“Despite this, Annie continues asking us for more money,” they say, and explain that this time they decided to respond publicly after years of tension over the complaint filed.

“The worst accusation she has made is that Sam sexually abused her when she was a child,” they add, and describe the allegations as “completely false.”

According to Annie Altman’s complaint, the attacks occurred from 1997, when she was three years old, until 2006.

In a 2023 New York Magazine report, the journalist who met Annie in Hawaii describes her as an artist with depression, increasingly estranged from her family and who supports herself through online prostitution.
