Taxes: will you receive, like 9 million French people, 639 euros from the tax authorities on January 15?

It’s a welcome breath of fresh air after the end-of-year holidays which are looming for just over 9 million French tax households. On Wednesday January 15, they will receive a transfer to their bank account for an average amount of 639 euros with the wording “ADVANCE CREDIMPOT”. That is, in total, 5.8 billion euros paid by the State to taxpayers.

This advance paid by the General Directorate of Public Finances (DGFiP) corresponds to 60% of the total amount of tax reductions and credits (RICI) declared in spring 2024 for expenses incurred in 2023 ― total amount which appears on the last notice income tax, received last summer ― deducting any immediate advances of personal services tax credit already received in 2024.

“The RICI 2025 advance being calculated in relation to the 2023 income declared in 2024, the non-revaluation of the scale linked to the absence of finance law for 2025 has no impact on its amount”, specifies the tax authorities.

Who are these 9 million tax households who are entitled to this check? These include taxpayers employing employees at home (for cleaning, gardening, etc.), incurring childcare costs, having made donations to associations, making rental investments (with the Pinel, Scellier schemes …) or even having accommodation costs in nursing homes.

The supplement paid in the summer

“This advance will not be paid or its amount will be reduced if the user has intervened to eliminate it or adjust it downwards in their particular space, section manage my withholding tax between September and December 2024,” warns the tax authorities.

The final amount of tax reductions and credits to which each taxpayer is entitled will be calculated by the tax authorities based on the declaration of income and expenses incurred in 2024 which will be filed with the administration in the spring. “It will be subject to regularization in the summer taking into account the amount of the advance paid in January,” the DGFiP is further warned.

For the 9 million tax households affected by this advance of credits and tax reductions, a document specifying the amount and payment terms will be made available in their particular space on impots.gouv.fr. Please note that those whose bank details are not known to the tax authorities will receive a check before the end of January.
