Dancer Eduardo Serrano ‘El Güito’ dies at 82

The flamenco dancer Eduardo Serrano ‘El Güito’ He died tonight at the age of 82, as confirmed by the Amor de Dios Flamenco Academy in a statement.

The flamenco dance legend will be buried this Thursday, January 9 until 9:00 p.m. at the El Escorial funeral home, as reported by the dance studio.

Born in the Madrid neighborhood of El Rastro in 1942, Serrano began flamenco as a child in the neighborhood where his mother sold lottery tickets.

Although he had previously won a competition at the Madrid Theater for children’s artists, at the age of 16 he won the Sarah Bernhardt Prize from the Theater of Nations in Paris, having previously trained at the Quica and Antonio Marín academies. He would make his debut at the age of 14 at the Palace Theater in London along with Mario Maya, Antonio Gades, Alberto Portillo and Curro Vélez.

In addition, he would be part of the ‘Trío Madrid’, along with Maya and Carmen Mora, and it was in 1996 when he received the Calle de Alcalá award. He has played several roles in some films, among his latest creations are ‘Madrid Jondo’ (1995) and ‘Puro Jondo’ (1999).
