Major fires in Los Angeles: continued acute danger from strong winds

Los Angeles – There is no end in sight to the devastating fires. Because the weather forecast for Thursday night and Friday doesn’t bode well: another wave of the Santa Ana winds is expected to sweep over Los Angeles in the coming hours and further fan the flames.

On Thursday night, the strong wind initially subsided as the low pressure area responsible for it moved south towards Texas (USA) deducted.

But new danger threatens from the north. A high pressure area is currently building up there, which, according to weather experts, will cause strong gusts of wind again. These could contribute to the further spread of the five major fires.

Wind gusts of up to 110 kilometers per hour

Warnings of extreme wind gusts of up to 90 kilometers per hour had already been issued by Friday afternoon (Los Angeles time). Expect in the mountains surrounding the Californian city Wetter-Experts even predicted gusts of up to 110 kilometers per hour.

With dry and windy weather expected, an acute fire danger has been issued across much of the region for the next 24 hours.

The flames cover an area of ​​more than 11,000 hectares. Five people have already died. More than 100,000 people have fled the flames.

In the northwestern hills of Pacific Palisades and in Pasadena in the north of the US metropolis, the flames are eating house after house. Two parts of the city burn down. At least 2,000 buildings are completely destroyed.

Around 7,500 emergency services are fighting the fires. The Fire department has already been in use for more than 30 hours. However, the fires are still far from under control. At least they managed to start a new fire in the hills of Hollywood contain.
