Snowboard star Anna Gasser wins big air at Kreischberg

Austria’s Olympic snowboard champion Anna Gasser was able to celebrate on Saturday evening. The Carinthian won the home World Cup on Kreischberg in her special discipline Big-Air.

Gasser started the final with a “Cab Triple Cork 1260 with Drunk Driver Grab”. She immediately took the lead with 93 points. She then showed a “Backside Double Cork 1080 Melon” and was already the winner before her last jump. The Japanese Reira Iwabuchi came second.

It was Gasser’s third victory on the Kreischberg after 2017 (Slopestyle) and 2023 (Big Air). “I’m overwhelmed. It was all or nothing. This time I skipped the safety jump at the beginning,” said Gasser. “The level of the others is so high. It’s great for me that I can still keep up. I’m relieved. It’s a kind of proof that it was right to continue. I’m just enjoying it.”

The 13th World Cup victory for Anna Gasser

It is Gasser’s 13th World Cup victory and the first since December 2, 2023, when she won a big air event in Beijing.

The 16 year old Hanna Karrer took sixth place in the final.

In the men’s category, the Chinese Yang Wenlong won with 182.50 points or 2.25 points ahead of the Japanese Taiga Hasegawa, who had been ahead until then, thanks to a final jump that was rewarded with 96.50 points. His compatriot Kira Kimura came third (168.75). Gasser’s partner Clemens Millauer, who like her was in fifth place in Klagenfurt, was less lucky this time. He missed qualifying for the ten-man final in 13th place in the morning. His compatriot Eric Dovjak was unable to compete due to injury.
