Tiberville received 10 million euros from his namesake in Paris

The village of Tiberville in Normandy receives a sudden inheritance equal to five annual budgets from a Parisian whose name is associated with this locality.

Roger Tiberville, having lived a long life, never visited the Norman commune, in honor of which he received his surname. He inherited property in Paris from his family and worked as a meteorologist. In August 2024, at the age of 91, the man died without leaving any heirs. After his death, the mayor of Tiberville, where 1,773 people live, received unexpected news: Roger Tiberville bequeathed the majority of his fortune, estimated at 10 million euros, to the village, The Guardian reports.

Tiberville Mayor Guy Paris said local residents and officials, surprised and encouraged by the generous gift, are now discussing how best to use the funds, which amount to five times the town’s annual budget.

Paris noted that Roger Tiberville’s only connection with the village was probably his name. He also mentioned that the benefactor lived in Paris, owning four apartments in the southeastern part of the 15th arrondissement. Tiberville’s only wish was that his ashes be placed in a memorial monument in the cemetery of his “native” village.

“Mr. Tiberville asked for nothing in return for his legacy, but we owe him at least this,” the mayor said.
