China records record export figures in 2024

Chinese exports will reach a record in 2024. Chinese state media announced this on Monday. At the same time, Beijing is anxiously waiting to see what impact the coming into office of US President Donald Trump will have on trade figures.

Last year, exports were one of the few positive indicators for the Chinese economy, which is suffering from an ongoing crisis in the real estate sector and low confidence among Chinese consumers, who are therefore spending less money. “For the first time, the export amount exceeded 25 trillion yuan (3.3 billion euros, ed.), an increase of 7.1 percent compared to the previous year,” said Chinese broadcaster CCTV.

Imports amounted to 18.39 trillion yuan (about 2.39 trillion euros), an increase of 2.3 percent compared to 2023.

China’s foreign trade rose a total of 5 percent compared to 2023, reaching 43.85 trillion yuan (5.84 trillion euros). This is a record level, according to various media.

Trump has promised to drastically increase tariffs on Chinese imports after his inauguration. This could have a major impact on China’s foreign trade.
