UK issues Orwell’s Big Brother coin

The Royal Mint has announced the release of a new £2 commemorative coin to mark the 75th anniversary of the death of George Orwell.

On the reverse of the coin there will be an image of an eye with a camera lens and the inscription “Big Brother is watching you” from Orwell’s book “1984”. The phrase “there is truth and there is untruth” from the same novel will be imprinted on the edge of the coin.

On the obverse is a portrait of King Charles III.

The coin is made of silver, the outer circle is silver plated with gold.

From 20 January, visitors to the Llantrisant Mint will be able to take part in minting the coin themselves for an additional £7.50.
