Better than Federer: Tennis superstar Djokovic breaks Grand Slam record

Tennis Superstar Novak Djokovic has with the Australian Open set another milestone in his career. The 37-year-old Serb played 6:1, 6:7, (4:7), 6:3, 6:2 in the second round against Portuguese Jaime Faria his 430th Grand Slam match and thus surpassed the Swiss tennis icon Roger Federer.

“I’m blessed that I was able to set another record today,” said the 24-time Grand Slam tournament winner: “I love this sport, I love competitions.” Whether he wins or loses – one thing is certain about him, emphasized Djokovic: “That I will always leave my heart on the court.”

Djokovic drops second set in tournament

As in his opening win against the carefree one US-Youngster Nishesh Basavareddy Djokovic also had a few problems against the qualifier Faria and had to give up a set. But the heavy favorite caught again safely and ended the match after three hours with an ace.

Djokovic praised his opponent afterwards: “I told him at the net: The future seems bright for you, just keep going.” In the third round, the seventh in the world rankings will face the number 26 seed Czech Tomas Machac. Djokovic is aiming for his eleventh triumph in Melbourne.
