The VIII ALMA Awards of the Spanish Screenwriters’ Union exclude scripts written with Artificial Intelligence

The Screenwriters Union of Spain ALMA this Wednesday announced the presentation bases for the audiovisual works candidates for the VIII Awards 2025, among which stands out the exclusion of works with scripts made with artificial intelligence.

With this decision, The screenwriters’ union shows its “resounding” rejection of this form of intervention, generating value for the work of the script professional..

Starting this Wednesday, and until January 29, the 437 audiovisual works produced and released in Spain in 2024 can be voted on. The awards will be presented at the Screenplay Gala on April 9 at the Capitol Cinemas, in Madrid.

The main novelty, compared to previous editions, is that it will constitute cause for exclusion from the contest if the script of the works has been written with the intervention of Artificial Intelligence programs.

The 437 eligible works compete for the nine categories of the ALMA awards: Best dramatic feature film script; Best Screenplay for a Comedy Feature Film; Best Screenplay for a Documentary Feature Film; Best Program Script; Best contest script; Best Writing for a Drama Series; Best Writing for a Comedy Series; Best daily series script, Best documentary series script.

This last category has recently been included due to the boost that this format has experienced in recent years in Spain. Once the deadline has ended, the nominated works for this edition will be announced.
