There is a short essay by Jorge Luis Borges about hell, in which the great Argentine poet examines the question of how long a sinner has to burn down there on average – for a reasonable period of time or perhaps forever? Borges himself thinks that “the hair-raising” is fundamentally conceivable for us humans, so why not the unlimited duration of hell. There is one thing, however: It is against religion to believe in eternal damnation.
