Ceasefire in the Gaza Strip will come into force this Sunday

The ceasefire between Israel and the terrorist group Hamas in the Gaza Strip will come into force on Sunday (19), Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Mohammed bin Abderrahman, announced this Wednesday (15).

The head of the government of Qatar, who acted as a mediator between the parties to the conflict together with Egypt and the United States, announced in a press conference that “implementation formalities remain to be finalized this evening, and then internal measures will be taken to the Israeli government for the entry into force of the agreement on Sunday, January 19.”

The implementation of this agreement and the entry into force of the ceasefire will take place from 12:15 pm on Sunday, said Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesman Majed al-Ansari, without specifying the time zone.

“This is the day the truce begins, but of course we urge everyone involved to press for an end to civilian targeting and stop the daily loss of life and bloodshed from now on,” he added.

According to the announced pact, the ceasefire will begin with a first phase that will last 42 days, in which the green light will be given for the entry of humanitarian aid and fuel throughout the Strip and for the rehabilitation of hospitals.

In this first phase, Hamas will release a total of 33 Israeli hostages in exchange for the release of Palestinian prisoners, the number of which was not specified by the Qatari prime minister.

During the development of these actions, the parties will finalize the details of the second and third phases of the ceasefire, added Abderrahman, who also called for calm from the announcement of the agreement until its entry into force.
