LG presents the fourth generation of OLED panels, which reaches a maximum brightness of 4,000 nits

LG has presented the fourth generation of OLED panel which reach a maximum brightness of 4,000 nits and are prepared for the new era of televisions with artificial intelligence (AI), which demand performance, energy efficiency and high brightness.

The fourth generation of OLED panels uses a structure known as ‘Primary RGB Tandem’ (Tandem Primary RGB), which uses independent stacks of RGB elements to produce light, which organizes the light source into four stacks, adding two layers of blue elements and separate layers of red and green elements.

This technology allows improve maximum brightness, that reaches 4,000 nitswhich makes this the first OLED screen in the industry to reach that figure, as highlighted by LG in a press release. It also improves color brightness by 40 percent to 2,100 nits, up from 1,500 nits on the previous generation.

LG has also pointed out the increase in energy efficiencya result of the improvement made to the structure and power supply system of the panel, which contributes to reducing its temperature. In a 65-inch panel it achieves energy efficiency approximately 20 percent greater than the previous generation.

Image quality is also improved with the application of a special film which solves problems derived from ambient light, such as reflections and blacks appearing gray. According to LG, it “blocks 99% of internal and external light reflections, achieving perfect black.”

The technology company is designed to televisions with AIwhich demand high brightness and energy efficiency, and will begin mass producing this technology this year “to consolidate its dominance in the premium TV market.”

It has also announced the gradual application of ‘Primary RGB Tandem’ technology to its Gaming OLED line.
