Former Real Madrid full-back Fabio Coentrao is involved in an illegal seafood trade case

The former Portuguese international Fabio Coentrao who is currently dedicated to the fishing sector after his career as a footballer, has been involved in a case of illegal crustacean trade, as reported this Thursday by the Food Safety Authority (ASAE).

The health authorities announced the suspension of the activity of three illegal warehouses in the north of Portugal and the seizure of 17 tons of food.

One of these warehouses housed a crustacean farm belonging to Fabio Coentraoan ASAE spokeswoman told AFP.

According to the newspaper News Journalthe inspectors visited on Wednesday the warehouse owned by the former player, who played for teams such as andl Real Madrid, AS Monaco and Benfica Lisbon, located in the fishing port of Póvoa de Varzim (north). There they found 12 saltwater tanks filled, among others, with lobsters and shrimp.

In total, there was more than a ton of crustaceans that was confiscated by the authorities due to various irregularities, such as absence of invoices or marketing license.

Coming from a fishing community in northern Portugal, Fabio Coentrao dedicated himself to this activity after retiring from football in 2021, after a career in which He accumulated 52 calls with the Portuguese team.

The 36-year-old former left back, now owner of three fishing boats had rented a warehouse seven months ago to start marketing seafood, according to the News Journal.
