Polestar will build cars in Europe for the first time

The Swedish electric car manufacturer Polestar, a subsidiary of the Chinese Geely, will build cars in Europe for the first time. Polestar CEO Michael Lohscheller told the German news agency dpa.

“The new model, the Polestar 7, will be built in Europe,” said Lohscheller. This should reduce transport costs and avoid import duties.

So far, Polestar has mainly used Chinese factories and a Volvo production site in the United States. According to Lohscheller, no decision has yet been made on the exact location and production partner for the European factory, nor on the launch date for the Polestar 7.

Polestar wants to be stronger in Europe. The car brand today sells most of its vehicles online and delivers them through a limited number of showrooms. Lohscheller wants to expand the dealer network to approximately 300 locations worldwide in the coming years.

Polestar is in danger of having a more difficult time in the United States, now that the American government has decided that from 2027 there will be a ban on connected cars with Chinese parts, even if they are built in the US. However, Lohscheller remains optimistic that solutions can be found and emphasizes the importance of the American market.
