Pension reform: Olivier Faure expects François Bayrou to say the word “suspension”

Towards a suspension of pension reform? Intense discussions took place in Bercy all week between the executive and opposition political leaders (apart from LFI which refused to discuss) on budget measures to prevent them from voting for censure, as with Michel Barnier a month ago. At the heart of the negotiations is a possible concession on the Borne reform. “As we speak this morning, the account is not there yet,” Olivier Faure said on Sunday.

“As it stands, we would censor”, the government, assured the First Secretary of the Socialist Party (PS) interviewed on BFMTV. However, “I cannot say what the outcome of the question will be,” he explained because the discussions “continued this morning (Sunday) again” with the executive. “The government has its own red lines, we are trying to see what are the paths that allow conciliation,” he continued, assuring that he wants to believe that there is “a possible path”.

“A moment of discussion” is even planned with the Prime Minister before his general policy speech on Tuesday, announced Olivier Faure, without giving details of the date and place. “I don’t know what he will decide,” he insists, but the leader of the socialists says he is only waiting for a “very simple word” from François Bayrou so as not to vote for the motion. of censorship: “suspension” of the pension reform.

“Find compromises”

“But my personal wish and that of the socialists is not to seek to censor for the sake of censoring,” he said, stressing that the government’s efforts “are not yet sufficient”. Olivier Faure clarified that the goal of the PS was not to “set a trap for the government”, but on the contrary “to find the right reasons for the French to say yes, there was a discussionn, yes, they managed to find compromises ».

“We want to ensure that we have both guaranteed our pay-as-you-go pension system and that we have done so by not placing the burden of financing on the most precarious,” he explained.

Asked about the statements in Le Parisien by President LR of the Senate Gérard Larcher, who wants “neither suspension nor repeal” of the pension reform, Olivier Faure minimized the influence of the right, which only has 47 deputies. “This assumes that at some point we all stop getting colds when Gérard Larcher coughs,” he said.

Braun-Pivet “not opposed in principle”

The President of the Assembly Yaël Braun-Pivet affirmed on Sunday “that she is not opposed in principle” to the fact of briefly “stopping” the pension reform to “re-discuss” it.

“What suits me is that we talk again. Afterwards, if we have to stop to discuss again with a very short discussion cycle, I am not opposed to it in principle, but what I want in these cases is that we really agree on really put things on the table during these six months of discussion and that we all commit to really discussing,” she said, guest on Political Questions on France Inter.

The reform “is not perfect”, and even “unfair”, and “there are many subjects to still be discussed”, whether on arduousness, long careers or women’s pensions, she said. underlined, without explicitly calling for a “suspension” of the pension reform.
