Data centers|A billion-euro “energy park” is planned to be built in Pori, which is described as one of Finland’s top projects.
IN PORIS a construction project worth one billion euros begins.
A large data center and power plant are to be built in the city. The project’s parties describe the end result as an “international energy park”.
The project is led by the founder of ecogrid.energy from Pori Seppo Ihalainenaccording to which it is “one of Finland’s leading projects”. He describes the construction site, the former industrial area of Outokumpu, as one of the best lots in the Nordic countries.
“Pori has exceptional conditions for fast and green implementation. Construction can possibly start during the end of the year”, says Ihalainen in the press release.
Turku-based property development company Compassforge and construction company NCC are involved in the project. During the construction phase, the project will employ hundreds of people.
However, the selection of the user of the data center has not yet been made.
To the energy park according to the project, the future power plant will support the main grid by acting as regulation capacity.
The electricity demand of the data center in the first phase is 150 megawatts.
The plan is to conduct heat from the energy park to the district heating network, and according to the release, it can be used to heat the whole of Itä-Pori.
The landscaped buildings of the area will be placed in a park-like environment. The goal is to build the second phase of the energy park later.
NCC commented that it is moving from housing development projects in the Pori area to developing industrial construction in Satakunta.
“Several development projects are underway in the coastal area, the area is of interest to operators from various sectors,” says NCC’s director of real estate development in the press release Nyroos themselves.
Data centers and data centers are currently booming in Finland.
Mäntsälä has a new Nebius data center, whose computing power is sold to the world is becoming a billion-dollar business.
Search engine giant Google’s parent company Alphabet, on the other hand, plans to build A data center in Kajaani and Muho.
Ihalainen, who led the Pori project, previously ran a data center company called Ficolo, which was sold to the British a couple of years ago for 135 million euros.
