The Thyssen-Bornemisza travels to Palma, with works by Peter Halley at the Casal Solleric since March: “Art is sharing”

He Palma City Council y Blanca and Borja Thyssen-Bornemisza have signed a collaboration agreement so that art of Thyssen-Bornemisza National Museum trip to the Balearic city, with a view to reinforcing the cultural accent and thus turning the island into an international reference.

The first stop will be the Casal Solleric, which from March will host works by Peter Halley, which have been in the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum, and will mean “the first step” of this collaborative project which was reflected this Tuesday with the signature between Blanca and Borja Thyssen-Bornemisza and the mayor of Palma, Jaime Martínez, who described it as “an opportunity” for both the city and the citizens.

“It is the first step of a very important, long-term collaboration project between Madrid and Palmabetween a very large private collection, but which also has a national museum behind it, and the ideal place, the most dynamic, most vigorous team, the city with an impressive cultural heritage, but with a very extraordinary dynamism, a power in society, with an international airport“said the museum’s artistic director, Guillermo Solana, in the Museum room that houses, precisely, the works that will be exhibited in Palma in just over a month.

“In the end art is sharing. We do many things here at the museum, thank all the directors and all of you who are here for your love, your support. “We have to say that when we ask for more and more and it seems that the museum is getting too small and offers like this appear, the truth is that we feel very excited and grateful,” Blanca Thyssen-Bornemisza has indicated in this regard.

For his part, the mayor has highlighted that this agreement “will crystallize” in other projects, and it is already projected that Thyssen’s works will be exhibited in the GESA building, a cultural center that Martínez pointed out is intended to be “of reference.”

“The GESA building will be transformed into a reference cultural center and, furthermore, it will be done shortly, that is, the acquisition of the building is taking shape now, the first week of February it will already be a reality. And in the coming months an international ideas competition will be launched to really make this cultural center the best cultural center there can be not only in Palma but in the entire world,” said the mayor of Mallorca.

This collaboration, like other projects that will be deployed throughout the city, has the medium-term objective of contributing to Palma being chosen as European cultural capital in 2031. Palma will be a candidate this year for that cultural capital, “This makes it possible to build the objective in an easier way and with much more projection.“, Martínez pointed out.
