Turkey is in mourning; about 80 people have died in a fire at a ski resort.

Turkish authorities report that the number of victims of a fire at the ski resort in Kartalkaya in Bolu has increased to 76 people, more than 40 victims remain in hospitals. These data were transmitted to the media by the Turkish Ministry of Internal Affairs.

A one-day mourning period has been declared in the country.

The head of the Turkish Ministry of Internal Affairs, Ali Erlikaya, said that as part of the ongoing investigation, nine people were detained, including the owner of the hotel where the fire occurred.

The fire was reported at 3:27 a.m. on January 21. The fire started on the fourth floor of the 11-story building where the restaurant was located. According to Bolu provincial governor Abdulaziz Aydin, there were 234 guests at the hotel.
