The Prime Minister outlined four aspects to grasp the smart era

Information shared by the Prime Minister at the discussion Towards the 16th UNCTAD Ministerial Conference within the framework of the WEF Davos Conference in 2025. The event was specifically designed by WEF for Vietnam to discuss trends in trade and investment. globally, as well as building the agenda for UNCTAD 16 hosted by Vietnam at the end of 2025.

At the discussion, the Prime Minister commented that current challenges to trade and development take place globally, affecting everyone. Therefore, he said that an all-people, comprehensive and global approach is needed, so countries need to strengthen cooperation, join hands, fight protectionism and promote multilateral trade for development.

According to the Prime Minister, the smart era must be grasped from four different aspects including politics, security, economics, environment and society. “In which politics and security are peace and cooperation, economics is rapid and sustainable development, society is progress and fairness, leaving no one behind,” Mr. Chinh explained. Accordingly, Vietnam must prepare resources for the new era with an approach to resources rooted in thinking and vision. Motivation comes from innovation, strength comes from people and businesses.

UNCTAD Secretary General Rebeca Grynspan along with international organizations and scholars highly appreciated the achievements in economic growth in recent times, especially effective participation in the global supply chain and effective implementation of policies ” leave no one behind”.

Mr. Grynspan also said that UNCTAD 16 was held in a country with dynamic development thanks to openness and successful integration like Vietnam, marking a meaningful turning point in the new phase of this organization.

On January 21, the Prime Minister also received Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Daren Tang. In the context that Vietnam will invest heavily in innovation, science and technology, and digital transformation, he hopes WIPO will accompany and support Vietnam to continue to be upgraded in the Innovation Index Report. create globally.

The Director General of WIPO also congratulated Vietnam on being in the top 50 countries with the highest innovation index and the local innovation index that WIPO cooperated in building.

The Local Innovation Index (abbreviated as PII – Provincial Innovation Index) is built nationwide, scoring 63 provinces and cities presided over and built annually by the Ministry of Science and Technology. 2024 is the second year this index is published with the 3 highest ranked localities being Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Hai Phong.

On January 21 and 22, the Prime Minister will attend the 55th World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, at the invitation of WEF founder and President Klaus Schwab. This is one of the prestigious global forums, attracting the attention and participation of most leaders of countries, international organizations as well as the world’s leading corporations and companies. Vietnam and WEF have had relations since 1989.

This year’s WEF Davos conference has the theme “Collaboration for the Smart Era”, with the participation of more than 3,000 delegates.
