Netflix reaches 300 million subscribers and announces a new price increase in the United States and Portugal

Netflix has reached a total of 300 million subscribers globally and has announced a new price increase in your subscription plans, including option with ads, for users in the United States, Canada, Portugal and Argentina, in addition to including a new offer of Extra Member with Ads.

After the last increase in its rates in October of last year, the company shared its earnings report for the fourth quarter this Wednesday, where it announced that, in order to continue investing in programming and offering more value to users, they are adjusting prices in some regions for “reinvest and continue improving Netflix.”

In this sense, Netflix has increased the prices of its rates for users of United States, Canada, Portugal and Argentina. Specifically, in the United States it begins to charge $17.99 per month for their standard planinstead of the $15.49 it previously charged. The same has happened with the plan Premiumwhich will increase from $22.99 to $24.99 per month.

Likewise, the option of subscription with ads It will also suffer an increase in its rate for the first time since its launch in 2022. Now, it will cost a dollar more reaching the $7.99.

This has been confirmed by Netflix spokesperson, MoMo Zhou, in statements to The Verge, who has indicated that the price increases will begin to be effective during the next billing cycle of users, although it has not detailed whether the new rates will be transferred to other regions such as Spain.

In addition to all this, the streaming content platform has also announced that it will include a new option for plan with adswhich he refers to as ‘Added Bonus Member’. In this way, it will allow users to have this plan add an extra profile outside the home.

This option will be available in ten of the twelve countries in which the ad-supported plan is offered, to offer its members “more options and flexibility”since currently this alternative of adding other external profiles is not possible in the subscription with ads.

300 MILLION SUBSCRIBERS

In addition to all this, Netflix has also shared in its latest results that it has reached a total of 300 million subscriber users globallywhich represents an increase of around 19 million new subscribers compared to the previous quarter.

According to The Verge, this is the largest amount of subscriber increase in a quarter that Netflix has accumulated. However, the company has detailed that will continue working to continue increasing this figure.

“We believe that we represent less than 10 percent of the television audience in all the countries in which we operate, suggesting a long growth path as streaming continues to expand around the world,” they stated in their results document.
