Movistar Plus+ will produce new films by the Javis, Alauda Ruiz de Azúa and the film debut of Berto Romero

‘The Sundays’by Alauda Ruiz de Azúa, ‘Five more minutes’by Berto Romero and Javier Ruiz Caldera, and ‘The black ball’by Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi are the new original film productions of Movistar Plus+. In addition, the platform also confirmed that other of its already announced feature films, ‘The Tigers’by Alberto Rodríguez and Rafael Cobos, and ‘Spirit’a film by Oliver Laxe and Santiago Fillol, will be released this year in theaters and ‘The loved one’the new film by Rodrigo Sorogoyen and Isabel Peña, starring Javier Bardem, will begin filming in a few days.

“Cinema is fundamental for Movistar. Around 25 percent of the people who sign up for Movistar do so to watch movies and the consumption of movies on our platform is close to 30 percent. Cinema is, along with series, documentaries and non-fiction and, of course, sport, one of four major pillars on which the Movistar Plus+ proposal is based.“said Domingo Corral, content director of Movistar Plus+ at the presentation held in Madrid in which he was accompanied by the creative managers of the announced films.

There he once again reaffirmed the determined commitment of “cinema in movie theaters” and projects with “international projection” and an author’s perspective. “Authorship understood as works that respond to a creative outlook, to a vision and ambition of creators. That is the type of cinema we want to promote. “We want to get away from everything that is formulaic, everything that is cliché, and yes, we want to surprise with the films we make,” Corral says to give the floor precisely to the authors of the film projects.

Among the new features stands out ‘The black ball’the second film by Javier Ambrossi and Javier Calvo in which the creators of ‘The Messiah’ will bring to the cinema an unfinished play by Federico García Lorca of which only four pages remain.

The film, which will be produced by Movistar Plus+, will begin filming in September or October of this year, it will follow the “wounds” of three homosexual men in three different periods located in the years 1932, 1937 and 2017. ‘The Black Ball’ will be , according to the filmmakers, “a ‘queer’ vindication of a part of the history of our country”.

And after the success of his first series, ‘Querer’, Alauda Ruiz de Azúa returns to the cinema with ‘The Sundays’a film that will follow the footsteps of Ainara, an idealistic and brilliant young woman, who has to decide what university degree she will study. Or at least, that’s what her family hopes she will do, but she believes her future may lie somewhere else.

“I am very excited about filming ‘Los Domingos’, I feel that there is something very special in this project, at this moment… In some way, ‘Cinco Lobitos’ and ‘Querer’ are bricks in the house of ‘Los Domingos’“, the director has pointed out that in her new film she will have a cast headed by Patricia López Arnaiz, Miguel Garcés, Juan Minujín, Mabel Rivera and Nagore Aramburu, introducing the young Blanca Soroa. The film will begin filming in February in different locations in Bizkaia.

BERTO, CAUGHT IN A LOOP

Among the new Movistar Plus+ cinematographic originals is also ‘Five more minutes’, the first film written by Berto Romero. After the series ‘Look What You’ve Done’ and ‘The Other Side’, Berto now immerses himself in the fantasy genre in a film about a marriage trapped in a time loop in which he himself will star and which will be directed by Javier Ruiz Caldera.

“‘Five minutes more’ is a script written out of pure artistic necessity, a creative impulse that assailed me and took me away forcefully without anyone asking me,” says Berto, who says he feels “proud” to have “sneaked” a film by time loops. “I think we are going to surprise with the proposal. It is a science fiction genre, but hyperrealistic“says Ruiz Caldera.

During the presentation he also spoke Alberto Rodriguezwhich will premiere this year ‘The Tigers’a thriller starring Antonio de la Torre and Bárbara Lennie, in which two brothers, Antonio and Estrella, who work in the world of industrial diving, find themselves involved in a complicated plot that will put them to the test.

A film whose filming, remembers the director of ‘La isla minimal’ or ‘Modelo 77’, has been “a daily adventure.” “It was the most uncertain film I have ever made, but the adventure was worth it“, says the filmmaker who promises an immersive journey “to a world and an unknown and wild environment: the sea.”

This year it will also see the light ‘Spirit’the new movie Oliver Laxe which follows the steps of a family searching for their lost daughter in the middle of a remote rave in the middle of the arid and ghostly mountains of southern Morocco. A story that finds the “balance between something of a genre for the general public and something more subtle, more sensorial or poetic“.

“It has undoubtedly been my most difficult film so far, an extreme shoot in locations in Teruel, epic and beautiful in equal measure. We have gone from the several degrees below zero of the Aragonese winter nights to the extreme heat of the Sahara Desert in the middle of summer“, Laxe acknowledges that in this film he has a cast headed by Sergi López and the young Bruno Núñez along with a group of non-professional actors, something common in Laxe’s films.

“BARDEM IS A DIRECTOR BETTER THAN ME”

Javier Bardem and Victoria Luengo They lead the cast of ‘El ser loved’, the new film by Rodrigo Sorogoyen and Isabel Peña. “The loved one’ is a story about a father and a daughter who have to live with each other’s story“, advances the filmmaker who, about to start filming, has already begun rehearsals with the actors.

“It’s funny because Javier Bardem plays the film director, yesterday we did a rehearsal and he does it better than me. He starts directing and says things that I wouldn’t have thought of,” Sorogoyen says laughing. Raúl Arévalo, Marina Foïs, Mourad Ouani, Raúl Prieto, Melina Matthews, Nuria Prims, Pablo Gómez Pando and Malena Villa complete the cast of the film whose filming begins on February 1 and will last ten weeks in different locations in Fuerteventura and Madrid.
