Urban music represents 35.67% of the songs that sound in Spanish discos

Urban music led by genres such as reggaeton, represents 35.67% of the songs that sound in Spanish discos, followed by pop-28.93%-, as can be seen from a study presented by The General Society of Authors and Editors (SGAE).

Then, other styles follow, such as electronics-2.70%-, rock –2.08%-, alternative music —1.77%-, reggae–1,28% -, Universal or ethnic music-0.90%-or other genres.

The results have been obtained from a sample of different stores in the country and allows to obtain a first fixed photo of the works used, ensuring a fairer and more equitable distribution of associated copyright.

Precisely, the data has been presented this Wednesday at the SGAE headquarters in Barcelona, ​​at a series of round tables and conferences organized in collaboration with the National Federation of Leisure entrepreneurs and shows, Spain at night. The meeting announced the result of the monitoring system that identifies the songs that are reproduced in discos, bars and concert halls, developed by BMMA Music Innovators.

The technological platform also reveals that 60% of the songs that sound in discos are not heard in radio stations. The diversity of the repertoire in the Leisure premises shows that, in the last three months of 2024, 98,000 songs of 36,000 artists and producers have been reproduced.

The meeting is part of the project ‘Clubs are culture’driven by Spain at night, with the support of SGAE, which seeks to demonstrate the cultural dimension of leisure premises and shows, and in which music has a “primary role.”

Thus, among the objectives of this day, the entity highlights in a statement the need to claim the cultural dimension, the artistic role of DJs and the recognition of dance music in nightlife as a unique expression of culture.
