Funding in Finland doubled with 2.3 billion – these EIP funded

The Finnish investments in the European Investment Bank Group rose from EUR 992 million in the previous year to a total of EUR 2.3 billion in 2024.

The money supported 1,800 Finnish small and medium-sized companies and 21 investment projects were funded across the country.

The financial amount is expected to generate total investments of EUR 5.1 billion, which corresponds to 1.9 % of Finland’s GDP (GDP).

“Significant investments in 2024 show the bank’s undisturbed commitment to support Finland’s economic growth and resilience,” says EIP’s Vice President Thomas Östros.

Green growth

EIP, owned by EU countries, finances investments that promote the achievement of politically decided by Member States.

In 2024, half of the EIP Group funding in Finland focused on the green transition and a third of business innovation.

Projects in the Green Transition included, among other things, an investment of EUR 168 million in a Keliber-Litium project, which aims to improve the availability of battery materials for electric cars and the technology industry in the EU.

The Prysmian plant, for its part, received funding of more than EUR 221 million from EIP. It expands the production of nursing high voltage electricity cables to accelerate a clean energy transfer.

Forestry company Great single -collar EIP granted a loan of EUR 435 million to produce environment -resistant packaging.

In addition to the sale of used phones known Swappie received a $ 14 million risk capital loan. This is used to renovate and sell iPhone phones, which reduces electronic waste.

“Finland is European leading countries in innovation and sustainable development,” Östros praises.

EIP also invests EUR 150 million in replacing Helsinki’s fossil heating plants with renewable energy, which supports the city’s coal.

Last year, Finnish small and medium-sized companies also included a financial partnership of EUR 200 million with Finnvera. The aim of the cooperation is to eliminate obstacles to access to funding by dividing the risks associated with, for example, inflation and high interest rates.

The European Investment Fund (EIR), for its part, granted guarantees of more than EUR 560 million last year on loans from leading Finnish banks.

Education and health

In 2024, the EU Bank prioritized the infrastructure of health and education.

In Helsinki, a loan of EUR 100 million was granted for the renovation of Laakso Hospital.

In Tuusula, school construction was funded by EUR 105 million EIP loan.

In addition, EIP finances water infrastructure projects in the Helsinki metropolitan area.
