The Berlin-Brandenburg Radio (RBB) has to save and also wants to delete areas in the course of this. This was announced by the public service broadcaster on Thursday.
“The RBB will save nine million euros to secure its solvency from 2026,” says a press release. In addition, there would be an additional 13 million euros to be saved in order to continue the digital renewal of the entire station and to be able to invest in the program.
Personnel budget shortened by ten percent
Saving should be saved, among other things, with personnel costs, and positions should also be deleted. According to the RBB, the sum that is to be saved corresponds to 254 full -time positions of festivals and freelancers. Where the places will be omitted, one wants to decide during the year. Overall, the broadcaster has a personnel and fee effort of 215 million euros. With a reduction of 22 million, around 10.2 percent of the personnel budget will be deleted.
“The dismantling must be realized socially,” commented RBB director Ulrike Demmer. The social partners are now approaching to find suitable paths for implementation. “This is how the RBB secures its economic stability and we create scope in order to be able to invest in the digital transformation of all areas of the house and our regional programs,” said Demmer.
The primary goal is to permanently secure the programmable performance of the RBB in all playbacks and to meet the expectations of the contributors to a regional, ensured and diverse RBB, according to the press release.
The RBB was in a crisis in the course of the scandal around the former director Patricia Schlesinger and is currently in a restructuring process.
