Trump announces: "We will put 25% duties on Mexico and Canada"

The President of the United States Donald Trump said that the United States will apply 25% duties on imports from Mexico and Canada, reiterating his warning to the two countries which are the main commercial partners of the United States.

Trump has declared that he has not yet decided whether to tax the Canadian and Mexican oil, also confirming that the United States would have imposed 25% customs duties on the products of these two countries since February 1st. “Maybe yes, maybe not. We will probably make a decision tonight on oil,” he said in response to a question to the White House. The question of oil exemption is far from a detail: according to a report by the United States Congress, Canada and Mexico represent 71% of the raw imports of the United States, with Canada representing 60 %.

However, the United States are themselves a great producer. “I will put 25% duties on Canada and separately, 25% on Mexico. We really have to do it, because we have very large commercial deficits with these countries,” confirmed the American president.
