Venezuela will close consulate from Chile in Caracas

The Chilean Foreign Ministry reported on Friday that the Venezuela regime requested the closing of the two Chilean consulates in Caracas and Puerto Ordaz, “as a result of the suspension of diplomatic relations between both countries.”

“The Government of Chile regrets this situation, which affects thousands of compatriots in Venezuela and Venezuelan citizens who need consular assistance, and informs that it is evaluating the various alternatives available to ensure the necessary support for compatriots residing in that country,” he said in a statement The Chilean Chancellery.

The Chilean embassy in Venezuela has been closed since August, when dictator Chavista Nicolás Maduro ordered the departure of Chilean diplomacy after President Gabriel Boric calls the 28 July elections, which Maduro says he won, even without having the minutes .

The Chilean government was reluctant to declare the breakdown of relations with Venezuela, but the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Venezuelan regime, Yván Gil, said they have been broken since August.

The relationship between Chile and Venezuela was already tense before last year’s elections due to Venezuelan criminal gang Tren from Aragua and the murder in Santiago a year ago by former Venezuelan military officer Ronald Ojeda.

Chilean national prosecutor, Ángel Valencia, confirmed this month that three of the witnesses of the investigation of the murder of Ojeda point to the authorities of the dictatorship of Caracas as responsible and that at least one of them says that “the order and payment would have left the Mr. Diosdado Cabello “, current Minister of Interior, Justice and Venezuelan Peace.

The Chilean prosecution’s thesis, which since the beginning of the investigation has been based on a “political reason”, is also supported by the Boric government.

Dissident of Chavismo and a political asylum applicant in Chile, Ojeda was kidnapped on February 21, 2024 at his home in Santiago and his remains were found ten days later in a city on the outskirts of the capital, buried under a cement block.
