They propose Gabriel Cuadra García as subgovernor of the BDEM

President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo yesterday sent to the Senate of the Republic, to be ratified, the nomination of Juan Gabriel Cuadra García, as a member of the Governing Board of the Bank of Mexico (BDEM).

In the office of the president it is necessary that the appointment will enter into force as of its approval and until December 31, 2032. Cuadra García currently serves as director of Economic Studies of the BDEM, a position held since 2019.

The position has been vacant for more than a month, so the Senate’s Board of Directors turned it directly to the president of the Finance and Public Credit Commission of that Chamber, Cuauhtémoc Ochoa Fernández, and everything indicates that it will be one of the first matters that will be discussed in the session next Wednesday.

The Governing Board is made up of: Governor Victoria Rodríguez and the subgovernors: Jonathan Heath, Galia Borja and Omar Mejía Castelazo, the four proposed by former President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

Last December, the sub -governor period Irene Espinosa Cantellano – proposed by Enrique Peña Nieto -, who was the first woman at the Central Bank Government Board, concluded. That is the vacancy that would be occupied by Juan Gabriel Cuadra García, in case the Senate guarantees the nomination made by President Sheinbaum.
