The president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, has confirmed on Tuesday that 10,000 troops from the federal forces have begun to deploy on the northern border within the framework of the agreement with the Trump administration to pause the imposition of tariffs.
“It is a deployment that does not leave the rest of the country without security,” said the Mexican president at a press conference, adding that the rest of the states will not be left without effective, but I know that it is a “reorientation of the forces” .
The troops will move to the states of Sonora, Chihuahua, Coahuila, Nuevo León and Tamaulipas, among others. The objective is to strengthen the northern border within the framework of the commitment assumed with the United States to stop the traffic of fentanil and avoid the crossing of migrants in exchange for paralyzing the imposition of 25 percent of Mexican exports tariffs.
For its part, the Trump administration has pledged to investigate the entry of weapons to Mexico under the agreement. “How is it possible that in Mexico there have been launched that are seized of criminal groups when this type of high -power weapons is only exclusive to the army in the United States?” Sheinbaum has questioned this Tuesday.
President Trump has imposed a 30 -day moratorium on 25 percent tariff of fentanyl.
