Results of the survey: Americans will spend a record $ 27.5 billion on the celebration of St. Valentine’s Day

The aggregate expenses of Americans for the celebration of St. Valentine’s Day (all lovers, February 14) in 2025 can reach a record $ 27.5 billion, the annual survey of the National Retail Federation (NRF) of the United States showed.

In 2024, they amounted to $ 25.8 billion. The previous maximum of $ 27.4 billion was recorded in 2020, Interfax notes.

They plan to celebrate Valentine’s Day of more than half of the respondents (56%), which is higher than the previous year (53%). At the same time, they are ready to spend on an average of $ 188.81 on an average of $ 185.81 in 2024.

Sweets (56%), cards (40%) and flowers (40%) remain the most popular gifts. 35% of respondents plan to go to a restaurant, theater or cinema. 22% want to give jewelry.

The total expenses for jewelry are expected to amount to about $ 6.5 billion, $ 5.4 billion, $ 2.9 billion, $ 2.5 billion for flowers, $ 2.5 billion, $ 1.4 billion for flowers.

Americans most often use online stores (38%) to buy gifts, they are followed by ordinary stores (34%), discounters (29%), flower and other specialized stores (18%).

This year will be spent on gifts for spouses/partners, which is a record of $ 14.6 billion, which is a record ($ 14.2 billion in 2024), for family members – $ 4.3 billion ($ 4 billion).

At the same time, almost a third of the respondents (32%) plan to make gifts to friends/friends (last year 28%), which is a historical maximum. Working colleagues intend to congratulate 19% of Americans (16% in 2024), buy gifts to their pets – 32% (as a year earlier).

In a survey, which NRF and Prosper Insights & Analytics was conducted from January 2 to 7, more than 8,000 Americans participated.
