With great mastery who acquired in a self -taught way, Jimmy Monter for several years has been working in the resistant horquets of owls, eagles and tlacuaches, among others.

It is precisely at the ends of those horquets where the young craftsman holds the leagues – a piece of leather – that serve to launch with great force already considerable distance stones and other objects.

According to Monter Soto, the horquets or bodies of the spring are carved and hand painted by one piece or branch.

He reported that when he was a child, having money to buy a spring, one day he came up with one.

After getting several small and thick branches, he held some tubular leagues. But the fork broke at the time the leagues tense to throw the stones, so he began experimenting with branches of various dry trees that abound in Santiago de Anaya.

In the end, he discovered that the most resistant were the branches of the mosque, white stick, huizache and capulincillo.

When he obtained his first surfaces, he noticed that the horquet or branches were very crude, so with a razor they gave uniform forms and then made them engraved.

Over the years, he learned to work more and more complex images of animals in the small trunks or base of the speakers, which later began to paint.

But it was until about seven years ago, at the Gastronomic Fair of Santiago de Anaya, in which it occurred to him to make several springs with original designs to exhibit them and put them on sale.

The beauty of the pieces has turned Jimmy Monter into a craftsman recognized not only in Santiago de Anaya, but in other municipalities of the Mezquital Valley.

To sell them, Jimmy Monter goes to artisanal fairs, samples and exhibitions to offer his handmade resorters, which can also be found in the Santiago de Anaya House of Culture.
