The world’s longest wooden wind turbine, made by Voodin Blade Technology (Germany), is about to be ready for testing. The company cooperates with the Senvion wind turbine manufacturer (India) to test the wooden rotor on the company’s 4.2 MW turbine platform, Interesting Engineering On February 5 reported. Turbine is specially designed to optimize in the relatively weak wind environment at an altitude of up to 140 m.

Voodin Blade Technology and Senvion will first study comprehensively to evaluate the technical, economic and environmental potentials of the wooden rotor, then install and test the prototype. The testing process is scheduled to take place in Europe in late 2026 and early 2027.

“The Turbine 4.2M160 model shows that we are constantly pursuing innovation in wind energy technology. Outstanding in the most challenging environments. We have evaluated Voodin’s technology and found great potential for sustainability and flexibility, “Amit Kansal, CEO of Senvion India, said.

The production process of Voodin Blade Technology does not require the usual molds and can make the rotor 20% cheaper than the propeller made from composite materials. The final length of the rotor has not been decided but will exceed 50 m. Therefore, the company said that this will be the longest wooden turbine that has ever been built.

Voodin Blade Technology specializes in producing sustainable wooden turbines, using plywood (LVL) to increase efficiency and reduce environmental impact. The new cooperation can solve one of the biggest challenges of the wind industry – the ability to recycle turbine – by integrating technical wood, a recycled material, into the wind turbine.

The creative LVL production technology of Voodin Blade Technology helps eliminate mold needs, significantly reduces energy consumption in the production process and ensures uniform quality through advanced automation. The flexible method, regardless of the mold allows expanding scale and fast adaptation, meeting the diverse needs of customers, and significantly reducing costs.
