EK proposes to build a tunnel from Finland to Stockholm

Business The Confederation (EK) proposes to investigate the construction of a bridge tunnel from Finland via the Baltic Sea to Sweden.

The proposal is included in the EK Thursday to publish an overview of transport links. The report has included the Palta of the Employers’ Association and the construction industry representing the construction companies.

EK proposes in its announcement that a report on the bridge tunnel connection to Stockholm must be launched already during this term.

CEO of the organization Jyri Häkämies says that Finland’s Western integration also applies to traffic and NATO partners need to build a “strong traffic knit”.

“We need stronger traffic connections to the rest of Europe and the world to grow economy and to succeed in foreign trade. This is also required to reduce the security situation, which has already been concretized in repeated destruction of the Baltic Sea, ”Häkämies says in the organization’s release.

On Thursday The announced review proposes analysis of three bridge tunnel options.

According to the EK, the government should look into three new alternative intervals: bridge tunnel from Helsinki to Stockholm, bridge tunnel from Vaasa to Umeå and from Helsinki to Tallinn.

In addition, the EK proposes to investigate the construction of EU track width from Haparanda to Oulu, Raahe and Rovaniemi.
