Finnish designer Ikea creations got a surprising visibility at the Grammy Gala-a “fun idea”, says Hanna-Kaarina Heikkilä

Finnish designer Creatures are rarely seen as close to the world’s celebrity cream as it is now. Last weekend, such a miracle was seen at the Crypto.com Arena of Los Angeles, where the US Music Prize Grammy Gala was held.

In pictures of social media, the gala tables had been placed Hanna-Kaarina Heikkilän and Anni Pitkäjärvi Dejsa table lamps designed for Ikea. Heikkilä himself heard about his acquaintances.

“It was a funny thing. They had seen pictures of it in Somme and posted a message that you noticed that the lamp was on display at the gala, ”Heikkilä says.

The camel had been expected because of the fact that Will Smith first performed at the prize gala after the sad Oscar gala. He had been out of the entertainment industry prize gala since 2022. At that time he walked to the stage and hit the Oscar gala Chris Rockia.

Chemistry Heikkilä has previously worked for a couple of years as part of Ikea’s design team, but the Dejsa lamp was born in his own design office. Heikkilä and Pitkäjärvi founded the Studio Finna office in 2014, but did not start as full -time entrepreneurs only four years later.

The Dejsa lamp was one of the first jobs in his office to be the chief designer.

Just Heikkilä, who is forty, has worked for Ikea for about ten years. Over the years, Studio Finnan’s footprint has been seen in addition to luminaires, including in tableware. Images of the products have spread diligently on social media.

“There has been quite a lot of things to do, and then quite often they have come across in public spaces, such as toilets. An event like a Grammy Gala doesn’t come to mind, ”he recalls.

Grammy Award Let’s consider the recognition of the Oscars in the film industry, and the gala is known for its costume and top-notch artists. This year there were stars of the entertainment world Taylor Swiftista Beyoncean. The most anticipated rewards were won by, among other things Kendrick Lamar, Chappel Roan and Sabrina Carpenter.

In this way, the biggest stars in the music world were able to admire the “beige and opal white -white table lamps with a mouth -watering glass shadow,” as Ikea says.

“The starting point for design is that the product is suitable for many places, such as in the middle of the dining table. I hadn’t thought it would end up at the gala, but it was well suited to it. There were flowers and green decorations around the foot, which was a fun idea, ”he says.

Design And the cooperation between event organizers is important to both parties, and large companies like Ikea have their own ways to gain visibility.

According to Heikkilä, for example, Kalevala Koru has received its products, such as jewelry, for various festivities.

“It’s good marketing and brand construction. I wish Finnish companies would gain more visibility in such contexts. On the other hand, it would be wonderful if, for example, guests of the Grammy gala got a feedback from the luminaire. Feedback is very important in the design of a designer. ”

Would you be particularly interested in the opinion of a particular person?

“Not especially, as long as you get some opinion, it would be nice. On the other hand, when you think, it would be absurd to get direct feedback from Will Smith, for example. ”
