The Israeli army announces that it has struck two sites in Lebanon “which contained weapons from Hezbollah”

Initially, the Israeli army was supposed to have completed its withdrawal from southern Lebanon on January 26, where only the Lebanese army and UN peacekeepers can now be deployed. But this period has been extended until February 18, the United States announced, which are part of the truce’s supervisory committee. And the Israeli army announced on Thursday that it had struck, on Lebanese territory, “two military sites which contained weapons of Hezbollah, in violation of the cease-fire agreement”.

In its press release released on X, which does not give other information on the location of these sites, it adds that it “continues to operate to eliminate any threat against the State of Israel”. Tsahal says that combat aircraft have struck Hezbollah’s arms deposits that violated the ceasefire. A press release from the Israeli army describes the strikes as “targeted” and promises that the army “will prevent any attempt to reset from the Hezbollah terrorist organization, in accordance with the provisions of the cease-fire agreement”. According to the agreement, Hezbollah, Pro Iranian, must withdraw its forces from the south of the country and dismantle any military infrastructure remaining there.

According to the Lebanese National Information Agency (NNA), an Israeli raid has targeted eastern Lebanon. According to this agency, the strikes targeted “the summits of the mountain range in eastern Lebanon”, on the border with Syria. According to an Al-Jazira correspondent, this would have touched Iqlim al-Touffah, a mountainous region giving access to the south of the country.

Hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah began on October 8, 2023 in the aftermath of the unprecedented attack in Hamas, an ally of the Lebanese movement, against Israel, which sparked the war in the Gaza Strip.
