The head of the OIEA denounces from Moscow an increase in attacks against Zaporiyia nuclear power plant

The general director of the International Atomic Energy Agency (OIEA), Rafael Grossi, has denounced this Friday from Moscow that the Zaporiyia nuclear power plant, located in Ukraine but under the control of Russian troops, is undergoing an increase in attacks.

“The security situation is still very difficult in the area. In fact, we are registering more attacks, but we do not have an exact figure of them because our responsibility is not to count. Grossi, who has defended that these analyzes are carried out independently, has indicated that the agency will not pronounce however on the authorship of these bombings until it has “irrefutable evidence of the origin of the attacks”, according to the Russian agency of interfax news.

He also pointed out that at the moment it is not possible to identify the origin of the remains of drones found in the vicinity of the central, although he has admitted that this matter is being approached internationally by the organization.

This same Friday, the authorities of Russia and the OIEA have pledged to continue working together to guarantee the security in the facilities of the Ukrainian nuclear power plant, the largest in Europe.

“We will continue our efforts to guarantee security,” said Grossi, who has again alerted the danger of nuclear disaster involved in the attacks against the central and its surroundings.

Grossi has taken the opportunity to highlight the importance of his meeting with Lijachov, which has occurred days after a team of the agency has carried out a security inspection at the plant.

From the OIEA they have emphasized that “an increasingly fragile network raises a growing risk for all nuclear power plants, not only for Zaporiyia (in energy), although the latter is the best known in the country.
