The Baltic states are separated from the Russian power system

In the evening of February 9, these three countries will join the European Power Supply Network through Poland. The process of energy independence from the Russian Federation began in 2018, when an agreement was signed with Poland on synking the energy system of the Baltic States to European networks.

“The Baltic Energy System is finally in our hands, we control it, we will deprive Russia of the opportunity to use electricity as a political blackmail tool,” said Lithuanian Minister of Energy Jigwijize Vaychiunas.

Decades after the Soviet Union, the Baltic states will be separated from the Union’s energy network in solemn conditions. It is expected that the Presidents of the Baltic states, Poland and the head of the European Commission Ursula von Derl Lion will be in Lithuania.
