28 migrants found dead in mass grave in Libya, victims were tortured

The grave was found on Saturday after a raid on a place that was known as a meeting point for human dealers. In doing so, the authorities freed 76 migrants from Sub-Shara Africa who had been detained and tortured.

Libya has long been criticized for the treatment of migrants and refugees, with accusations of human rights organizations that vary from extortion to slavery. In March last year, a mass grave was discovered in southwestern Libya with “at least 65 bodies of migrants,” said the International Organization for Migration of the United Nations.

Libya is approximately 300 kilometers from Italy. This makes it an important starting point for migrants, mainly from countries in Sub-Sahara Africa. They risk dangerous journeys over the Mediterranean Sea to reach Europe.
